Bus drivers are employed by transportation companies, private firms, and schools to steer bus or van transporting passengers through designated routes. Public bus drivers are responsible to charge fares from passengers. It is their duty to help elderly passengers to get off the vehicle safely. Drivers must adhere to traffic laws and public transportation has working schedules and routes they must strictly provide service.

Bus Driver Job Summary:

Our organization is actively hiring bus drivers for fixed-route transit service in the city. We are looking for safe, friendly drivers who can help out children’s and elderly people move around using public transportation. Drivers must be responsible for ensuring safety, proper vehicle maintenance, following traffic rules and assisting in handling luggage of passengers. To be successful as a driver you must enjoy working with different personalities and consider passenger safety as the highest priority. You must greet passengers, ensure fare payment and notify accidents and mechanical issues to the concerned manager. Your responsibilities include transporting passengers over the specified route, regulate lighting, heating and ventilating system for passenger comfort, inspect the bus and check gas, oil, and water before departure. You must possess good reading and communication skills and should be able to collect mileage data from government vehicles for preventive maintenance and vehicle usage monitoring.

Bus Driver Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Able to drive all sort of passenger vehicles like bus, van or charters through pre-established route and schedule
  • Adhering to transit laws and ensuring the safety of passengers
  • Properly regulating lighting, heating and ventilation system inside the vehicle
  • Providing comfy temperature for passengers and turning the lights on during low hour of visibility
  • Parking vehicles at the designated area and charging fares to passengers
  • Checking the list of travelers, handling receipt and maintaining the log regarding schedule
  • Inspecting the vehicle prior departures like checking the brake, wiper, light fluid level, cooling system, gas, and oil
  • Answering passengers about various schedules, helping passengers with limited mobility, luggage and maintaining order during the ride
  • Assisting passengers during an emergency and providing first aid if necessary
  • Reporting emergencies, delays, and accidents and requesting assistance if needed
  • Making minor repairs of the vehicle like changing tires and adding cooling fuel when needed
  • Being attentive to traffic and weather condition

Bus Driver Skills and Qualification:

  • Must possess a commercial driving license
  • Must have a clean driving record
  • More than 2 years of driving experience is required
  • No accident reports in the last 5 years
  • Require high school diploma/GED
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Not more than 3 moving violation including drugs or alcohol in the last 36 months
  • Working knowledge of the local route and transit route
  • Punctual, reliable and must have strong communication skill
  • Aware using first aid procedure
  • Able to sit for an extended period of time
  • Able to lift, push, pull and carry tools above shoulder level without assistance
  • Must be able to move up and down stairs easily
