The construction accountant manages professional level accounting tasks in maintaining and reviewing the fiscal record. The role needs the candidate to possess knowledge about basic accounting principles and accounting functions. The candidate will be responsible for the general ledger, job cost, bank reconciliation, and accounts payable. The professionals must have a wide range of skills to maintain company books to accounting clerks who can handle a specific task. Accounting clerks usually post transactions in journals and computer files and update files when needed.

Construction Accountant Job Summary:

We are looking to hire a successful candidate who has a master’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field. The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years of work experience. In this role, you will be responsible for the accounts payable, receivable, and payroll. You will prepare and submit draw requests and work closely with the management on budgets. The accountant needs to perform a variety of tasks in the office ranging from filing and answering the phone, data entry for AP and AR, and the monthly financial close. He needs to oversee the daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial transactions and reports. They need to have strong experience general ledger, in house payroll processing, job costing, cash management, contracts, and billing. They must perform billing and accounts receivable activities to ensure accurate and timely transaction processing, cash receipt applications, and collection of accounts receivable.

Construction Accountant Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Responsible for handling the accounting operations of the company
  • Communicate routinely with project manager on a variety of topics including bonding, insurance, and contract agreement
  • Participate in the formation and implementation of company financial plans
  • Preparing all monthly financial reports
  • Work with outside financial firms on the monthly close-out procedure
  • Provide reporting and budgeting to the senior management
  • Manage company and project cash flow
  • Supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable staff and functions
  • Work with project management staff ensuring proper compliances with accounting procedures including reviewing and analyzing job cost estimates and reports monthly
  • Maintain written accounting procedures for the operation staff and work for the team to ensure proper implantation and compliances
  • Creating new accounting procedures to prepare and manage a rapidly growing entity and evolving business structure
  • Developing and maintaining the relationship with key partners

Construction Accountant Skills and Qualification:

  • Bachelor degree in accounting with experience in Sage 300 and other related construction software programs
  • Must possess a minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Extensive knowledge about prevailing wage, insurance, union rules and procedures
  • Punctual, reliable and must have strong communication skill
  • Knowledge about MS office, and excel
  • Able to work in a team and produce quality output under tight deadlines
  • Strong verbal and oral communication skills
  • Self-motivated and strong analytical skills
  • Attention to detail, prioritization skill and time management
  • Quick learner with a positive attitude
  • Experience in general contracting and construction subcontracting is a must
