Introduction:

The hospice aide is responsible to provide palliative care to bed-ridden patients at a private residence. They need to possess certain skills like personal care expertise, bedside manners, stamina, cope up with distressing situations, emotional stability, and record keeping. The job duties of a hospice aide include provide quality life care to patients, deliver medical supplies, assist in activities of daily living, bath and groom patients, change the bed and provide basic patient care, provide care as per written instruction, maintain the record of patient care, assist with ambulation and exercise, report any problems and changes in patient condition to the nurse.

Hospice Aide Job Summary:

We are looking to hire a hospice aide to join our team of professionals. They will work under the direct supervision of a registered nurse and as a member of the interdisciplinary team providing personal care for the patient and assist with the activities of daily living. They need to provide support service under the supervision of appropriate professional staff following state regulation, assist the clients or family in the achievement of physical or emotional comfort according to the patient’s plan of care.

The main duties of a hospice aide include providing personal care service as per federal rules and regulations, planning and preparing nutritional meals including shopping, and assisting with feeding as assigned. They need to perform all duties as assigned.

Hospice Aide Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Applying safety principles and proper body mechanics to the performance of specific technique of personal and supportive care such as ambulation of clients, transferring clients, assisting with the normal range of motion of positioning and doing household chores
  • Performing homemaking and other environmental services as assigned
  • Observing report and document any changes in patients status
  • Understanding the element of body functioning and report changes in patients body function as indicated
  • Recognize emergency and implement apt emergency procedure per care center policy
  • Follow care center procedures regarding infection control, handling hazardous waste and safety measures
  • Accurately document care provided and submit notes and other required documents per care center policy
  • Assist patient with prescribed exercise as instructed per nurse or therapists
  • Perform and record a simple urine test for sugar and albumin
  • Provide respite for the patient family when on-site as appropriate

Hospice Aide Skills and Qualification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess a minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar field
  • Current CPR certification
  • Exposure to infectious waste and body fluids
  • Require to see hear and speak and use one or both hands
  • Punctual, reliable and must have strong communication skill
  • Strong verbal and oral communication skills
  • Self-motivated and strong analytical skills
