Introduction:

The lifeguard is responsible for the safety of adults and students using the aquatic facility. They monitor activities near the swimming pool area and provides assistance to the swimmers and should regularly inspect facilities for cleanliness and safety. The lifeguard must follow state rules and regulations while performing their duty. The job duties of a lifeguard involve supervising swimming activities at aquatic centers ensuring policies, guideline, and safety procedures are followed, warn swimmers of improper activities or danger, administer first aid in the event of injury, rescue swimmers in danger of drowning, evaluate the condition for safety and initiate emergency action plans. They instruct or assist class fundamentals of swimming as needed. The candidate should know on-site protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies.

Lifeguard Job Summary:

We are looking to hire a lifeguard. A Lifeguard’s primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of patrons at an assigned aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies. Lifeguards are responsible for enforcing all pool rules fairly and consistently. You will be supported in your work as a part of the leading mission-driven organization for strengthening the community, and the area’s largest provider of swim lessons. Lifeguards are also responsible for reporting any unsafe conditions or faulty equipment to their Supervisor. Lifeguards ensure proper pool water chemicals, record keeping, and maintaining a clean and enjoyable aquatics facility. A lifeguard can become a Head Lifeguard, Supervisor, Lifeguard Instructor and so much more! The lifeguard job may be seasonal or year-round depending on job flexibility in the area. The lifeguard requirements include Lifeguards must be a minimum of 16 years of age, lifeguards must be able to work all weekends throughout the summer, lifeguards must professionally conduct themselves and must be attentive and focused, lifeguards must have current American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid Certificates or obtain them before the beginning of the season. May be eligible for a certification training refund, certain requirements apply.

Lifeguard Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Maintain the pool every day depending on schedule and working hours
  • Treat the pool with appropriate concentration of chemicals on a regular schedule
  • Monitor pool-related activities closely throughout the shift and identify any safety issues
  • Direct swimmers out of the pool in a dangerous situation
  • Monitor weather report closely to ensure the safety of guests
  • Organize and oversee pool parties
  • Provide swimming lessons and swim team coaching when available
  • Maintain a clean environment in and around the pool
  • Assist swimmers when necessary

Lifeguard Skills and Qualification:

  • Current red cross or lifeguard training certification
  • Must possess a minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar field
  • Current first aid and CPR for the professional rescuer
  • Knowledge of current pool procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Water safety instructor certification or previous teaching experience preferred
  • Strong verbal and oral communication skills
  • Self-motivated and strong analytical skills
  • Completed grade 12
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • American Red Cross CPR for the professional rescuer
  • Quick learner with a positive attitude
  • Maintain a strong relationship with key groups
  • Motivational and communication skill
