Special education teachers oversee the education and training of students with mental and learning disabilities. The design and deliver lessons geared towards individual needs and capabilities of the student under their supervision. Special education teacher teaches at preschool, middle and high-level school. They at least need to have a bachelor’s degree specifically in special education. Some states require candidates to have a master’s degree in special education. The job duties of a teacher include coordination with other classroom teachers, school psychologists, learning disability specialists, speech specialists, and social worker to provide an integrated plan for developing capacities of their students., set learning goals for each student, assess their progress, and record their evaluation, supervise and train teaching assistants, update parent about the progress of their students and enlist parental support with behavioral control designed to supplement their classroom lessons.
