A physical therapy aide assists physical therapists during sessions and they also perform basic clerical duties. The physical therapist assistant can treat patients under a physical therapist’s direction but they can’t provide direct patient care. The primary duty and responsibilities of a physical therapy assistant includes guiding patients through exercise, answering to phone calls, scheduling appointments, helping patients at therapy areas, lifting and moving patient from therapy areas, setting up therapy equipment, changing linen, sanitizing therapy areas, massaging patient, informing patients and their families about after therapy treatment and monitoring patients progress. They also perform a few other tasks such as assisting the patient with intake, preparing hot and cold packs, transporting patient and documentation of patient’s progress.
